3. Boston College
BC at three might be conservative. The Eagles have been building with the kind of intentionality that produces sustained excellence rather than one good year followed by a regression. A Final Four in 2027 is not a surprise. A title appearance isn’t either.
4. Maryland

Additionally, the ACC schedule gives them weekly preparation that tournament teams need, and they’ve been competitive in those games in ways that weren’t true three years ago. Syracuse at five is where a program lands when the trajectory is clearly upward and the roster is almost ready to make the leap.
6. Penn State
The Nittany Lions have Big Ten infrastructure, national recruiting reach, and a coaching staff that’s been building with a long-term vision. A Final Four in 2027 is their realistic ceiling. Penn State belongs in the top ten of any honest preseason ranking.
7. Stony Brook
The Seawolves have been beating ranked opponents in the regular season for multiple straight years and then hitting a wall when the tournament arrives. That pattern doesn’t continue forever. The talent is there and the program culture isn’t the problem — the tournament breakthrough is a matter of when, not if. Seven feels low for a team that should be making Final Fours.
8. Denver

Their coaching has been excellent and their player development model produces results that outperform their recruiting rankings. Denver in the top ten is no longer surprising. It’s expected.
9. Princeton
The Tigers have the program discipline and the Ivy profile to be a consistent tournament threat. Their model doesn’t rely on portal volume — it relies on development, and that shows up in late-season performance when teams that assembled quickly start breaking down.
10. Florida

12. Virginia. The Cavaliers have the infrastructure and the recruiting corridor to be higher. Whether the program performs to that ceiling in 2027 is the question we’re waiting to answer.
13. James Madison. JMU has been one of the sport’s best-kept secrets for three seasons. Their coaching is excellent, their player development is excellent, and their results are excellent. The spotlight will find them eventually.
14. Hofstra. The Pride are a consistent tournament program with the coaching to cause bracket problems. CAA roots with a top-fifteen ceiling.
15. Connecticut. The Huskies have been building steadily and have the program foundation to make the back of this top 20 look conservative by May 2027.
16. Navy. Patriot League dominant and tournament-ready. Navy’s program culture produces teams that compete regardless of recruiting rankings.
