Everybody wants the scorers. Meanwhile, the most important position on the field sits there, undervalued and underreported, while programs scramble in silence to lock down the keeper who’s going to define their defense for four years.

The Class of 2027 goalie landscape is deep, talented, and — crucially — still wide open. These are the uncommitted guys programs should be sprinting after right now.

Why Goalies Matter More Than You Think

One elite goalie can turn a .500 program into a tournament team. One liability in cage can unravel a roster that looks great on paper. Yet every year, the goalie market moves slower, gets covered less, and draws fewer headlines than it deserves. That ends here.

The following class of 2027 goalies are the real deal — big frames, fast hands, and the composure to handle the moment when the game is on the line. None of them have a commitment to announce yet. All of them will.

The Top Uncommitted Class of 2027 Goalies

1. Brady Kellerman — Charlotte, NC / Carolina Chaos Lacrosse

Kellerman is the name most programs already know. Standing 6’2″ with a wingspan that genuinely alters shooting lanes, he posted a .542 save percentage last club season for Carolina Chaos — one of the most competitive club environments in the Southeast. His outlet pass is elite for his age, which matters in today’s transition-heavy offenses. Programs with fast-break systems should be clearing their board for this one. ACC and Big Ten programs have both been in contact, and the interest is mutual. He has not set a commitment timeline publicly.

2. Marcus Dunne — Naperville, IL / Illinois Thunder Lacrosse

The Midwest doesn’t always get the recruiting spotlight it deserves, and Dunne is a perfect example of why that’s a mistake. He plays in a heavy-volume club environment with Illinois Thunder, routinely facing 40-plus shots in weekend tournament games, and his composure late in tight games is what separates him from the field. His reaction time on low pipe shots is exceptional. D1 programs in the Big Ten corridor have been paying attention. Dunne has taken unofficial visits but has not narrowed his list publicly.

3. Cole Whitfield — Annapolis, MD / Looneys Lacrosse

Whitfield plays for one of the most respected club programs on the East Coast, which means he’s been tested against the best shooting talent in the country. His angles are ahead of schedule — he plays the arc like someone who’s been coached at the college level already — and his communication with defenders is the kind of quiet leadership that coaches notice immediately. He has the size programs covet at 6’1″ and is still growing into his frame. Several ACC and Patriot League programs have been in his ear. No commitment date announced.

4. Jaylen Okafor — Atlanta, GA / Atlanta Lacrosse Club

Okafor is the high-upside name on this list. His raw athleticism is genuinely elite — he’s also a multi-sport athlete with serious football recruiting interest — and his hands are fast enough to make saves that most goalies at this age simply don’t make. The refinement in his footwork and arc management is still developing, which means the program that gets him will be getting the finished product. This is a bet-on-the-ceiling recruitment. Several Southern and ACC programs have been working him hard. He’s not in a rush to commit.

5. Nate Sorensen — Portland, OR / Pacific Northwesties Lacrosse

West Coast goalies have historically been overlooked in national recruiting conversations. Sorensen should change that conversation. He plays for one of the top club programs on the West Coast and has put up save percentages that would draw attention anywhere in the country. His body control on off-angle shots is advanced, and his ability to keep his team in games when they’re being outshot is exactly the kind of intangible that shows up in film reviews. Long-distance recruiting is part of his reality, and several programs have already made the trip to see him live. No commitment yet.

The Bigger Point

Every one of these goalies is going to commit somewhere and make that program better. The programs that treat goalie recruiting as an afterthought — or worse, as something to figure out after they’ve locked up their offensive recruits — are playing a losing game.

The cage defines the defense. The defense wins championships. And right now, five of the best class of 2027 goalies in the country are still available.
